to advance to the eighth Stanley Cup Final in franchise history. Two goals by Jeff Carter (even strength and empty net), an iconic shorthanded goal by Mike Richards and an Arron Asham tally supplied the offensive support for Michael Leighton

I remember that Habs series. Just had to weather the storm in the first 10 minutes of every game then we took over. Not unlike our series against the caps this year unfortunately the other way

It feels like yesterday watching Richards on "the shift" to score that goal. Thought for sure it was destiny to be our year

It's interesting how the two most recent Stanley Cup Finals the Flyers saw, we lost to the teams I consider to be the birth of the closest teams we could consider dynasty teams in the NHL. We lose to the Red Wings in 97, they go on to win a number of Cup since that loss. We lose to the Hawks in 2010, they go on to win a number of Cups.

That whole run was special. Mike Richards' shift. The comeback against the Bruins. Lappy blocking a shot with his face. Pronger's noted making it to the finals with his last 3 teams in his first year with them. Danny Briere playing the best hockey of his career. It was hard to look away from the team nightly.

Or the Islanders before that, and the habs before that.

Brind'Amour was awesome. One of the real underrated players of our generation.

Can the other 3 teams just form an all star team to face London?

Not sure it will work. This yrs memorial cup has been kind of a let down imo. London is demolishing the field, and Brandon looks like the 2nd coming of flint

That one shift by Renberg in the first period. Wow. It just goes to show what size and strength can do to an opponent. That '97 team was a big strong team. I hope the Flyers can get some size soon.

Size, at least in hockey, matters.

Dont forget the rookie points record set by Ville Leino and the emergence of Claude. Everything about that series, including the History will be made commercials, was absolute gold.

run.......was......epic.

With Kevan Miller getting 4 years @ 2.5 is that something Gudas will look for? Not sure since Gudas is RFA and Miller was UFA.

I think it could be in both parties interests to keep it to a 3 year deal...would keep the cap hit lower since they buy less UFA years and it allows gudas to cash in when the Flyers probably no longer need him...also hopefully motivates him to play at a high level

That was a really really bad deal.

Id be willing to pay gudas a little more to keep the term down. Time it with ghosts next deal.

Aaron Asham could have had about 5 goals that game too IIRC.

Hopefully the RFA status works in our favor because Gudas is a better player than Miller. 3 years @ $2.75m is what I hope/expect.

Hextall has quite a few RFA contracts to get sorted out soon, plus UFAs White and Gagner to make decisions on. And before that deciding on buying out Umberger.

The thing is, people want to go to war and create conflict with me when I point out where I feel this current team really lacks. The 07-08 team was stacked. The 09-10 team I feel was stacked. I look at a lot of our boys and see that we need to improve. Voracek needs to work on that shot. Raffl would probably be a really good asset on a cup contender but in the bottom 6. Couturier is a good second line center but the Sharks, Pens and Bolts have Marleau, Malkin and Johnson as their second line centers who are all better offensively.
